How it's worked out
Federal tax and Ontario tax are each worked out on taxable income (your income less the enhanced CPP contributions and RRSP deductions) using the 2026 brackets, then reduced by non-refundable credits at the lowest rate: the basic personal amount, base CPP contributions, EI premiums and, federally, the Canada employment amount. Ontario then adds its surtax and health premium and applies the Ontario tax reduction for low incomes. This is the CRA's T4127 method, used by its payroll calculator and tables.
| Taxable income | Rate | Tax on income in this bracket |
|---|---|---|
| $0 β $53,891 | 5.05% | 5.05% Γ income |
| $53,891 β $107,785 | 9.15% | 9.15% Γ income β $2,210 |

| $150,000 β $220,000 | 12.16% | 12.16% Γ income β $5,876 |

$12,989, worth 5.05% of that as a credit against Ontario tax. The federal basic personal amount is $16,452, reduced for net income above $181,440.
How much tax do I pay on $60,000 in Ontario?
$5,338.29 of federal tax and $2,981.73 of Ontario tax, plus $3,361.75 of CPP and $978.00 of EI, leaving $47,340 (21.1% deducted overall).
Does the calculator include CPP and EI?
Yes. CPP is 5.95% of earnings between $3,500 and $74,600, plus CPP2 at 4% up to $85,000; EI is 1.63% up to $68,900. The base CPP and EI earn a credit at the lowest rates and the enhanced CPP part is deducted from income, as on a return.
What are the Ontario surtax and health premium?
The surtax adds 20% of basic Ontario tax above $5,818 and another 36% above $7,446, so high earners pay well above the bracket rate. The health premium is a flat amount of up to $900 a year set by taxable income, collected with your tax.
Is this tax advice?
No. Results are estimates from the CRA's published 2026 rates and formulas for an employee with employment income only. Other income, deductions and credits change the answer; check with the CRA or a tax professional before you rely on a figure.
