Pay calculator: take-home pay in Australia, 2026–27
On an $80,000 salary in 2026–27 your employer withholds $622 a fortnight, so you take home $2,454.92 a fortnight; over the year, once your tax is assessed, you keep $63,880 ($2,456.92 a fortnight on average).
Enter any wage below, per hour, week, fortnight, month or year, to see tax withheld, HELP, super and net pay for every pay frequency side by side.
How it's worked out
Your pay is turned into a weekly, fortnightly and monthly amount. For each, the ATO's Schedule 1 formula gives the tax to withhold: take the weekly equivalent in whole dollars, add 99 cents (x), multiply by the coefficient a for your income band and subtract b, then round to the nearest dollar. The formulas already include the Medicare levy and, on scale 2, the low income tax offset.
Fortnightly amounts are the weekly figure doubled; monthly amounts are the weekly figure times 13 divided by 3. A study loan adds a separate Schedule 8 component. The yearly column applies the full-year rates instead, which is what your return will show.
| Weekly earnings (x) less than | a | b |
|---|---|---|
| $362 | 0.0000 | 0.0000 |
| $538 | 0.1500 | 54.3462 |
| $673 | 0.2500 | 108.2135 |
| $721 | 0.1700 | 54.3473 |
| $865 | 0.1790 | 60.8377 |
| $1,282 | 0.3227 | 185.1935 |
| $2,596 | 0.3200 | 181.7319 |
| $3,653 | 0.3900 | 363.4627 |
| and over | 0.4700 | 655.7704 |

Frequently asked questions
Why is the yearly take-home pay different from 26 fortnights?
Employers withhold with the ATO's Schedule 1 formulas, which round each pay to the dollar and use a 52-week year. Your real tax is worked out on your return, so the small gap between the two is roughly your refund or bill.
Should I claim the tax-free threshold?
Claim it from one employer only, usually the one that pays you most. If you claim it twice, too little tax is withheld and you will owe tax at the end of the year.
Is super taken out of my pay?
Not usually. The super guarantee (12% in 2026–27) is paid by your employer on top of your wage. If your job ad quotes a package that includes super, choose "included" and the calculator works out the salary inside it.
How is a HELP debt handled in my pay?
If you tell your employer you have a study loan, they withhold an extra amount (ATO Schedule 8) once your pay passes the repayment threshold. It counts towards the compulsory repayment worked out on your return.
Is this tax advice?
No. Results are estimates from the published ATO and Fair Work rules for the cases the calculator covers. Your own circumstances can change the result; check with the ATO, Fair Work or a registered tax agent before you rely on a figure.
