Frequently asked questions
Is FD interest taxable?
Yes. FD interest is added to your income and taxed at your slab rate. Banks deduct TDS when interest exceeds the threshold (₹50,000 for regular depositors from FY 2025-26; ₹1 lakh for senior citizens).
What is the difference between cumulative and non-cumulative FD?
Cumulative FDs reinvest interest and pay it at maturity (this calculator). Non-cumulative FDs pay interest out monthly or quarterly.
