Frequently asked questions

Is income up to ₹12 lakh tax-free in the new regime?

Yes for resident individuals: taxable income up to ₹12 lakh gets a full Section 87A rebate (up to ₹60,000). For salaried taxpayers the ₹75,000 standard deduction makes gross salary up to ₹12.75 lakh effectively tax-free. Marginal relief applies just above the limit.

Which regime is better?

The new regime is usually better unless your total deductions (80C, 80D, HRA, home-loan interest, etc.) are large — roughly above ₹4–5 lakh at higher incomes. Use the comparison to check.

Does this include special-rate income?

No. This simple calculator covers slab-rate income. Capital gains, lottery income and other special-rate items are taxed separately.
