Frequently asked questions
What is the STCG tax rate on shares for FY 2026-27?
20% on listed equity shares and equity-oriented fund units where STT is paid. Budget 2026 did not change it.
Is the 87A rebate available on STCG?
Not reliably — special-rate capital gains are treated differently from slab income for the rebate. Check with a tax professional; this calculator does not apply any rebate.
What is not included?
Surcharge, set-off against the basic exemption limit, losses and grandfathering for shares bought before 31 January 2018 are not modelled.
