FIRE Calculator (India)

FIRE corpus = annual expenses at your FI date ÷ safe withdrawal rate.

At 4% that's 25× expenses; many Indian planners use a lower rate (more years of expenses) because inflation is higher than in the US data behind the 4% rule.

How to use the FIRE Calculator India

  1. Enter monthly expenses today, your age and target FI age.
  2. Set inflation and expected return on investments.
  3. Choose a safe withdrawal rate (e.g. 3–4%).
  4. Enter current savings to see the monthly SIP needed.

Examples

₹50,000/month, FI now, 4% SWR

Input: ₹6 lakh/yr ÷ 4%

Result: ₹1.5 crore (25× expenses)

Frequently asked questions

What is the 4% rule?

It comes from US studies of 30-year retirements: withdrawing 4% of the starting portfolio, adjusted for inflation each year, historically lasted 30 years in most periods. Early retirees with longer horizons often choose lower rates.

Should I include rent and healthcare?

Yes. Include every expense you'll have after retiring, and consider separate buffers for health insurance and big one-off goals.
